Eli
Avikzar is the founder of the Krav Magen system and the first
black belt of the original Israeli Krav Maga under it's creator, Imi
Lichtenfeld.
In the early days of Krav Maga Eli became proficient in the arts of
Judo, Karate, Jujitsu and Akido in order to incorporate their
principles and counters into the development of the Krav Maga
system.
In 1974 Imi retired and Eli became the head of Krav Maga and joined
the Israeli regular army as the head of their Krav Maga section in
1976. Eli continued to develop Krav Maga until his retirement from
the Krav Maga association.
The many improvements Eli added to Krav Maga over the years had
transformed it into a new method that was parallel to the original
system. In 1987 Eli retired from the Krav Maga association and with
Imi's blessing founded K.A.M.I., the Israeli Krav Magen association.
Today, the K.A.M.I.
method has 35 branches across the country. It is recognized by the
Israeli ministry of education as the recommended method for schools,
it is authorized by the Wingate Institute, the Wingate College, "Na'amat"
(women's organization), and P.E. teachers and it is used by various
military and security forces and is known throughout the world.
Eli Avikzar continued to develop and promote the growth of Krav
Magen until his passing away in May of 2004. His fatherly wisdom and
teachings will be remembered always by the Krav Maga/Krav Magen
family. |
